The SOA Consortium was proud to host three winners of the 2008 SOA Consortium / CIO Magazine SOA Case Study Awards Program at the SOA Consortium’s December meeting in Santa Clara. The winners participated in two panel discussions. During the first panel -- a lunchtime plenary session of the combined SOA Consortium, OMG Technical meeting -- winners in government, healthcare and technology explained how they succeeded with SOA, lessons learned, and pitfalls overcome.
In the follow-on session, representatives from Canada Health Infoway and the US Department of Defense, AT&L, sat down with SOA Consortium meeting attendees to discuss SOA futures. Essentially, what are they doing now and what do they need to take their SOA to the next level. The winners spoke of business value opportunities, organizational implications, and technology and industry gaps.
In the extended conversation with meeting attendees, the winners provided insights on their business problems including constraints, use of open source, methods for knowledge management, missing design tool requirements and the continued challenges of security and skills acquisition.
